Dr. Marcus D. Floyd

Dr. Marcus D. Floyd has served as the Senior Pastor of Burkett Chapple Church since 2014. As the senior pastor, Dr. Floyd oversees the entire administrative, financial and ministry operations of the church. He serves as BCPBC’s primary teacher and minister of the Word of God.  In the past, Dr. Floyd also served as the Interim Pastor of Burkett Chapple Church from April 2013 until January 2014. Prior to that he served as the Assistant Pastor starting in 2011, after being elected to that position by the church. Preceding that assignment, Dr. Floyd served faithfully as the Youth Pastor beginning in 2005. 

Dr. Floyd also serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Marcus D. Floyd Ministries, which he founded in 2019 as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. Marcus D. Floyd Ministries supports many outreach efforts locally, nationally, and globally. Dr. Floyd hosts a television show titled, The Empowered Life with Dr. Marcus D. Floyd. The broadcast airs weekly on the Christian Television Network to a national audience. Dr. Floyd has also served as a board member of the Bartow High School Booster Club for five years.

Under Dr. Floyd’s vision and leadership, Empowered Christian Academy was established as an extension of Marcus D. Floyd Ministries and Burkett Chapple Church. The focus of Empowered Christian Academy is to provide students with a Christian perspective to guide their worldview. Our aim is for all students to have an appropriate understanding of their responsibilities in their commitment to Christ while at home, school and in everyday life. We promote the highest standards, and we encourage our students to be their best each day. Our Christ-centered approach is the focal point of everything that we do!

Dr.  Marcus D. Floyd is a 1997 graduate of Bartow Senior High School where he earned all-state recognition as a senior. He rushed for 1,002 yards and fourteen touchdowns despite missing five games due to injury and helped lead his team to the 1996 Florida 4A state championship. Dr. Floyd was then blessed with a full athletic scholarship to attend Indiana University where he excelled in both academics and athletics.
 

After a fruitful career at IU, he was blessed to be signed by the New York Jets and made the team as an undrafted free agent. Dr. Floyd had a four-year career in the NFL. He also played for the Buffalo Bills and the Carolina Panthers. He was allocated to play in NFL Europe during the 2004 and 2005 off seasons by the Carolina Panthers. He was the second corner back selected during the 2004 NFL Europe Draft by the Cologne Centurions. In 2011, Dr. Floyd was inducted into the Bartow Youth Football Hall of Fame. Dr. Floyd also had his number 24 jersey retired by Bartow Senior High School in October of 2013. He has been employed by GEICO as an insurance sales agent since 2006.

In June of 2015, during the 145th annual session of the East Florida District Primitive Baptist Church School Convention Dr. Floyd was elected to serve as the convention’s Bible Expositor. In 2016, Dr. Floyd was elected to the position of President of the East Florida District Primitive Baptist Church School Convention, and still serves in that capacity. Dr. Floyd also served as the adult facilitator for union 5 of the East Florida District Primitive Baptist Association.

Dr. Floyd and his wife have also hosted the Empowered Family and the MVP Men’s Conferences in 2017 and 2018. The MVP (Men of Victory and Purpose) Men’s conference was held on the south Lakeland campus of Polk State College. Dr. Floyd and his wife of more than twenty years, Dr. Monique Jones-Floyd are the parents of one daughter Milania.
